Green School | Environment Responsibility

Schools are becoming more and more environmentally friendly and recognizing environment responsibility, both in terms of the subjects they teach in the classroom and in terms of how they are built and renovated. Green structures offer a number of benefits, including cheaper energy costs, a smaller carbon footprint, and the creation of living-learning environments that encourage students to be more Earth-conscious. Green Valley School is the only Green School in Gandhinagar with the goal of developing green leaders and change-makers. With activities, materials, and events that support better food and nutrition, indoor air quality, and the 3Rs: reducing, reusing, and recycling, the school places a strong emphasis on green consciousness for both students and staff. Green Valley School, a member of the United Nation’s Global Schools Program is committed to the “development of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient systems”.

From the utilization of natural light and air circulation inside to the landscaping and the way it gathers rainwater outside, every aspect of the Green Valley School’s design shouts “green”. In essence, the School Campus itself functions as a tool for teaching children about sustainability, recycling, and conservation. The building’s materials, which were selected to lower the building’s environmental impact and reduce indoor pollutants and toxins, are also environmentally friendly. The natural finish of this material doesn’t need painting and needs little maintenance. Many of the building’s features also save energy, from low-flow toilets that save water to a huge numbers of plants and trees that help decrease the temperature in the School Campus. Water can gradually percolate into the ground by being funneled to raise the ground water level.

Green School’s Green Quest recognizes Environment Responsibility

  • School Bus

The large number of vehicles that ply on the road gives out the worst pollutants after that released from the factories. Green Valley School has introduced school buses such as that of Chandkheda & Motera in Ahmedabad and Kudasan, Sargasan and all the sectors of Gandhinagar. This not only helps in reducing the traffic problems and fuel usage but helps the children to have a wonderful ride with their friend and always reach on time.

  • Rainwater Harvesting / Recharging

School has filtration system and bore installed in the campus to recharge the ground water and not let the rain water go waste. School supports the environment and is making attempts to save it. By this increased ground water not only the school is benefited but all the neighboring areas as well. The rain water harvesting even reduces the TDS found in water and improves the quality of water.

  • Installing power saving fans and tube lights

In schools electricity is largely consumed by tube lights and fans. Power saving fans and tube lights are installed as they are used for long duration every day.

  • Email communication

An attempt is made to save trees by shifting from printed notices to more of communication through Emails and WhatsApp. Parents are accepting this change and are even appreciating the saving of paper.

  • Computers to teachers

Not only for parents but even for teachers Green Valley School is carrying out the go green campaign by giving teachers an Teachers Resource Centre with computers and internet installed so that they can save paper. They also get access to outlook and using it they can do announcements and circulars in a quicker and environment friendly way.
